Children's Garden Quilt Day
Every year for 13 years now, while the snow is still on the ground, we begin thinking about the garden. Preschoolers from schools such as Tewksbury public preschool, Haytown, 1st Step and Bright Horizons are given trays, plugs and seeds provided by the Friends of Whittemore. They begin growing these seedlings in their classroom, watering them and nurturing them until they bring them to Children's Garden Quilt in May. The board and volunteers host a special day full of planting, pond exploration, a pollination expert, face painting, flower arrangements, and a nature hike. But the good doesn't stop there. Produce grown in the garden are donated to local organizations such as the 634 pounds in 2014 that went to Good News House, Briteside, Open Arms, Anderson House and Clinton Food Bank. Schools are also invited back in the fall for a harvest day to see how the garden produces. Garden club grants continue to sponsor this event. This year we are offering the public the opportunity to purchase Garden Plots.

Directional & Interpretive Signage
A local Eagle Scout completed his project at Whittemore by creating trail signage. As anyone who has walked the trail recently knows, these signs are in disrepair or completely missing. We want to replace these signs and mark the trails in a way that will benefit the frequent visitor as well as the first time visior.
It has also be a long time vision of the Friends of Whittemore to be able to provide interpretive trail signs that highlight the local flora and fauna. Every hiker will be able to take a self guided hike without a paper brochure.
